Founded in 2019 by Smaranika Mohapatra, the brand blends the warmth of tradition with the needs of modern living. The name itself is a tribute — Ma for mother, Avni for earth — reflecting our roots in care, creativity, and sustainability. We believe every handcrafted piece carries not just art, but the story of the hands that made it.

Our Founder

Smaranika Mohapatra is the founder of Maavni Designs, a Bhubaneswar-based brand born out of her deep love for Odisha’s heritage art and culture. Passionate about reviving the age-old craft of Pattachitra, she has built Maavni as a platform where tradition meets modern living. Her vision goes beyond just preserving art — Smaranika is committed to empowering women and local artisans by creating sustainable livelihoods. Through Maavni, she dreams of taking Odisha’s art to global audiences while keeping its soul intact.

Our Art

Pattachitra is one of the oldest and most intricate art forms of Odisha, dating back over a thousand years. The name comes from the Sanskrit words Patta (cloth) and Chitra (picture) — traditionally painted on cloth or dried palm leaves using natural colours. Every piece tells a story, often drawn from the epics like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, or tales of Lord Jagannath, brought to life through fine lines, detailed borders, and rich, earthy hues.
